11. Controlling conference: Controlling - tool for business excellence

Nowadays controlling has important, indispensable role within the companies and it has gained important position within public institutions and nonprofit organizations.

Our goal is to keep and support the development of controlling in the Adriatic region; therefore we annually, since 1999, organize Controlling conference.

11. Controlling conference, which will be held between 27th and 28th of October 2011 in Grand hotel Metropol in Portorož, is addressed Controlling - tool for business excellence.

Business excellence is the systematic use of quality management principles and tools in business management, with the goal of improving performance based on the principles of customer focus, stakeholder value, and process management.

Best practices show that companies with incorporated business excellence indicate better growth and progress and improved business processes, at the same time they are establishing partnerships with stakeholders, investing into employees and promoting social responsibility. This requires constant improvements within the company or organization and especially dramatic change in the way of thinking and acting. Furthermore it requires very good communication between the employees. Bigger role have also human resources as only well trained employees can face the challenges of the future.

Business excellence is integrated into all working areas. Some methods that are based on strategy and monitoring of the attainment of the objectives were proved to be affective in practice, for example Balanced Scorecard, KPI, Lean Management, Six Sigma, EFQM, Business Process Management, Project Management etc.

While preparing the conference program we assumed that basic roles and tasks of controlling (planning, preparation of reports and proposals for actions) are already a constant in the work of controllers and managers. Companies are gradually devoting more time for business excellence – everything that is less gives an opportunity for improvement. Controller should be initiator for improvements, the one that is constantly warning management for possible improvements.
