Exasol Version 7 has improved performance, flexibility, and data science capabilities in key areas it is now even easier for you to run analytical models on even larger data volumes to find those business-critical answers and increase visibility. And this is all done at speed, so you don’t miss important business opportunities. With Exasol you transform your employees into a data-driven team that helps everyone extract more value from data.
These are the main three ways Exasol made improvements:
- Data vault 2.0 support
- Semi-structured data (JSON Function)
- GPUs support
1. Data Vault 2.0 Support
You can now manage the growing volume, complexity, and distribution of your data better than ever before. In data vault (2.0) all keys are stored as hashes which means better performance for your analyses and reporting thanks to improved joins between tables and schemas. These joins use hashes and run approximately four times faster than joins based on strings. Using the hash data type in your data model also gives your data engineers (and anyone involved in the data preparation processes) even more options for bringing additional tables and data sources into the model, adding granularity and opportunities for more detailed analyses while improving performance further.
Fully optimized global joins across your database cluster will perform much better, which means you don’t need to force these joins to be local anymore.
Optimized data inserts into and queries on partitioned tables allow you to import data into Exasol even faster and your queries on partitioned tables will run more efficiently.
2. Semi-structured data (JSON Function)
Bring all your data together in a 360-degree view for deeper, more accurate, and more precise analytics insights – natively supporting both structured and semi-structured formats such as JSON, with everything in your existing data environment.
To save you time when importing and converting your data, all JSON functions are now natively integrated in SQL and can be executed directly in the database. The need for using UDFs is removed and you don’t have to build complex ETL processes or do any up-front data modeling.
3. GPUs Support
AI and ML are essential for your ability to drive innovation. But the key is staying competitive when 53% of enterprises are already using AI(according to a 2018 survey of data and analytics decision-makers by Forrester) – and adoption is only set to increase. To help you do this, Exasol made it easier for you to build or utilize a data infrastructure that’s scalable and flexible enough to meet quickly evolving and expanding AI workloads.
Supporting the use of GPUs, Exasol V7 provides the speed and performance needed when training and retraining AI/ML models on large data sets and remove barriers to entry for deep learning. Moreover, the ability to run different AI/Ml workloads across on-premises and the cloud can provide the flexibility needed for a cost-effective, scalable, and secure AI solution.
What Else is new in Exasol 7
Beyond GDPR compliance: A fully compliant GDPR plug-in that equips you with row-level security and helps you automate the protection, masking, and encryption of your business users’ information – without compromising performance across large data volumes.
Prioritize more than just CPU workloads: Greater control to allocate resources in lines with your organization’s needs – such as controlling Temp DB RAM at a global level, for individual users and individual sessions.
Preview feature: Allows your users and administrators to see upcoming features and understand how they would improve your existing processes. For instance, you’ll be able to show your stakeholder whether certain operations and manipulations will run faster and more efficiently by upgrading to the latest version.
Exasol 7 is available from the 28th of July 2020.
Having provided the analytical environment for the leading Slovenian lottery company, we have enabled significant time savings in data preparation and processing as well as eliminated the need for manual data corrections. The specialised database Exasol processes records more than 100 times faster than the old environment while the consolidation and optimisation of reporting have led to fewer reports and more transparency.
